You finally took the plunge and decided to start your own business as an artist, whether it’s a photography business, a graphic design business, or you’re a jewelry maker, the principles are the same. Now that you started your business, you need to start selling your services. But how do you convince people when you just started out and have little to no experience? Here are some tips that might get you started.

Word-of-mouth
Unfortunately, nowadays, word-of-mouth advertisement is still the most important form of self-promotion. This is how you will get most of your clients. Because of that, it’s important that your whole network of acquaintances and friends know about what you do. Only that way you can get clients through recommendations.
Being at the right place, at the right time
Sometimes getting more clients, means you have to be at the right place, at the right time. Obviously, you can’t really know in advance when you are meeting a client. But get out there, always have some business card with you, and go to a lot of networking events, where possible clients gather. Do you wanna design wedding invitations? Make sure you find a wedding convention, where you can get a stall and so on.
Don’t refuse jobs
At the beginning of your freelancing career, it can be a little bit tricky. People might not want to pay your real rates. My advice here is to not be picky, if you get a project that you earn either a bit less than you would have expected or perhaps doesn’t interest you that much, just take it. In the end, any customer you took photos of, might bring in some new customers. When you have progressed more, you might be able to find yourself in a position where you can pick your own projects.
Final thoughts
Hopefully, with these tips in mind, you will be able to seal the deal with some more clients. All beginnings are challenging, but the more time progresses, the more clients you will get! Don’t lose hope!
